Biotransformation of trichloroethane (TCA) in groundwater

نویسنده

چکیده

Biotransformation and transport of Trichloroethane (TCA) in a saturated column has been simulated by employing a mathematical model developed by Corapcioglu et al., (1989). The model predicts the reductive dehalogenation of dissolved chlorinated aliphatics such as TCE and TCA under anaerobic conditions. The numerical results are compared with experimental data of Vogel and McCarty (1987) .

A 1,1,1-trichloroethane-degrading anaerobic mixed microbial culture enhances biotransformation of mixtures of chlorinated ethenes and ethanes.

1,1,1-trichloroethane (1,1,1-TCA) is a common groundwater pollutant as a result of improper disposal and accidental spills. It is often found as a cocontaminant with trichloroethene (TCE) and inhibits some TCE-degrading microorganisms. 1,1,1-TCA removal is therefore required for effective bioremediation of sites contaminated with mixed chlorinated organics. This study characterized MS, a 1,1,1-...

Natural attenuation model and biodegradation for 1,1,1-trichloroethane contaminant in shallow groundwater

Natural attenuation is an effective and feasible technology for controlling groundwater contamination. This study investigated the potential effectiveness and mechanisms of natural attenuation of 1,1,1-trichloroethane (TCA) contaminants in shallow groundwater in Shanghai by using a column simulation experiment, reactive transport model, and 16S rRNA gene clone library. The results indicated tha...

Detoxification of 1,1,2-Trichloroethane to Ethene by Desulfitobacterium and Identification of Its Functional Reductase Gene

1,1,2-trichloroethane (1,1,2-TCA) has become a common groundwater pollutant due to historically extensive utilization, improper disposal, as well as from incomplete dechlorination of 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane. Currently, limited information is available on microbial detoxification of 1,1,2-TCA. Desulfitobacterium sp. strain PR, which was isolated from an anaerobic bioreactor maintained to dechl...

Fluxes of trichloroacetic acid between atmosphere, biota, soil, and groundwater.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA), in former times used as a herbicide in agriculture, is now ubiquitous and almost evenly distributed in precipitations of the Northern and Southern Hemisphere, despite larger emissions of the possible precursors tetrachloroethene and 1,1,1-trichloroethane in the Northern Hemisphere. The permanent input of a herbicidal compound into most vulnerable ecosystems might lea...

The effect of silica on the degradation of organohalides in granular iron columns.

Dissolved silica species are naturally occurring, ubiquitous groundwater constituents with corrosion-inhibiting properties. Their influence on the performance and longevity of iron-based permeable reactive barriers for treatment of organohalides was investigated through long-term column studies using Connelly iron as the reactive medium. Addition of dissolved silica (0.5 mM) to the column feed ...
